Small Faith Communities
What is their purpose?
The aim of these groups is to share faith with one another—both to enrich one’s own faith life and to support others in theirs. Using the Sunday Scriptures as a starting point brings Christ’s presence in his Word to the heart of our conversation. A small community is the ideal setting to be able to take the Word of God, reflect on it and apply it to our individual lives and that of the parish community and beyond. Being able to pray with these readings before hearing them proclaimed on the weekend enhances one’s worship experience.
Can I become a member?
The Thursday evening group is currently seeking new members. The ideal group consists of 8-12 members, and we are looking toward enhancing our present group of seven by inviting anyone from the parish who might like to join us. The Thursday group is also open to the possibility of moving its meeting time to Wednesday if that day works better for the majority. If there is a greater interest, we are willing to help other groups get started to meet on a day and time of your choice.
What's next?
If you think you might be interested in growing your faith in this way, you are asked to call the parish office and leave your name and contact information. Someone from the group will then contact you and answer any questions you may have. You are encouraged to prayerfully consider this ongoing commitment to delve more deeply into the scriptures and enrich your life of faith. We look forward to hearing from you!
How did these small faith communities originate?
In 2013, several small groups grew out of a Lenten series where people came together to reflect on the Sunday gospels to make the holy season of Lent more meaningful. Many members wanted to stay together to continue the practice of preparing for the Sunday liturgy, and thus Small Faith Communities were born. At present, there are two communities who meet regularly –one during the day and the other on Thursday evenings.
